The heroes are now working as double agents for Rilsa Rael.

They wake up at the Helm and Cloak and are approached by Musayed who informs them that the hands of the Beloved Ranger have been removed as well and Rilsa believes that it is a direct affront to the poor of the city and wants the perpetrators brought to justice.

Their investigation starts in the wide.

Finding the brooch.

Talking to Dusklar.

Trip to the temple of Il Mater.

Tracking the vandals through the docks to Twin Songs, to the Pottery shop.

In which the heroes acquire a new companion

As the heroes approached the low lantern they heard voices being raised inside, but those voices were drowned out by the sound of a man hawking fight tickets behind them.

The hawker, a muscular youth with a fabulous mullet, wearing old and patched chain mail, recognizes the heroes from the Wide and, after introducing himself as Vicensius “Vinnie” Darkthorne, intimates that he may be of some assistance to them. Grixx agrees to give Vinnie a chance to prove himself in the search and seizure and/or closure of the Low Lantern.

As the heroes enter the Low Lantern, they are stopped by a Watch guard. The heroes explain that they have authority given by Duke Silvershield and are allowed entrance. Inside, a Watch sergeant is loudly proclaiming to the bartender that he has a writ of search and seizure and demanding to see Laraelia. Vinnie uses the time to drink half-full ales and procure a nearly untouched turkey leg, which he tucks into his belt for later.

A brawl breaks out between the three Watch guards and the crew of the Low Lantern. Wing Po and Erobos are briefly engaged in the scuffle before chasing after Laraelia, who is escaping. After searching below deck, the party returns to the brawl, breaks it up, and enlists the First Mate in contacting Laraelia and ultimately, the Guild.

At this point the heroes begin to question their loyalty to Silvershield and Ulder Ravengard.

Vinnie says that he knows of a Rilsa Rael who is supposed to have connections with the Guild, and though it is late, they head towards Little Calimshan to contact her. As they approach Basilisk Gate, they hear another brawl and yells about a robbery. They run toward the scene to see Nant Thangold bleeding on the ground and three human figures running. Members of the Flaming Fist take Nant away, cursing the “filthy peasants”.

The heroes arrive at the gates of Little Calimshan to find them closed and decide to spend the night at the Cloak and Helm.

Arrival in Baldur's Gate

Smooth sailing after the encounter at the farmhouse.

As the group pulls into the outer city of Baldur’s Gate, they are approached by a man who claims to know who they are, their purpose in Baldur’s Gate, and offers his assistance, joining their party.

Soon after entering Baldur’s Gate, after a brief run-in with a tax collecting dwarf, the party enters the Wide and witnesses the speech and death of Abdel, then fights and kills the monster that killed him. In the process they are disconnected from Ailen and the refugees.

The party is approached by three men and meets with two.

They agree to work for Ravengard, marshal of the Flaming Fist, and duke Silvershield.

The duke’s concern is the betterment of Baldur’s Gate, which equates to serving the patriar’s best interests and rooting out the disease that is the Guild.

Ravengard views the Guild as the Gate’s most pressing problem and the patriar’s corruption and decadence a close second, especially given their absolute control over the watch.

Ravengard has asked the party to shut down two gambling dens: The Oasis and the Low Lantern. He gives the party writs of closure and wants both cleaned out and boarded up.

The party heads out towards Little Calimshan and the Oasis.

Arrival in Elturel

Prologue

From the far corners of the North your travels have brought you here: to Elturel, a fat, prosperous farming city on the banks of the Chionthar River. Everywhere around you are signs of a thriving city and landscape. Caravans travel to and from each compass point on well patrolled roads. Near constant barge traffic along the river ferries foodstuffs, trade goods, and travelers both east and west. The hard, cold lands of the North seem a distant memory as you bathe in the late summer warmth, surrounded by signs of a bountiful harvest and a contented, safe, civilized country.

And what has brought you together, at this place?

Grixx Barrowhome, of a gypsy tribe of halflings, sent south to scout the wealthy lands and cities alongside the Chionthar River for new opportunities and to make contacts within local underworld guilds.

Grixx’s love of pranks and taking from the powerful found a kindred spirit in Wyndyl Quickstrike, elven cleric of Erevan, who comes here one step ahead of his reputation, and the Constable’s long reach.

Thrice in a fortnight while travelling, you both shared a room with Epirus Kasmenos, tiefling wizard. His exotic looks and bloodline immediately deflects attention away from his companions and onto himself whenever he enters a new settlement. Epirus’ fearsome demeanor and magical skills make for an excellent travelling companion and a tentative alliance was formed. These same features mean he is seldom welcome at any settlement for long.

Finally, the monk Wing Po completes your travelling band. His quiet, unassuming persona does not mask the sense of power that emanates from him, that of a bolt poised to loose from a crossbow at the slightest touch.

Wing Po also has a purpose in coming to Elturel, being sent here to aid the local Shrine of Ilmater with an urgent task. The Shrine is a secret stopping point of an underground network which ferries escaped slaves out of the decadent Empires to the south and the clutches of the Black Network of the Zhentarim to the North and East. A group of slaves is to be escorted to the coast, to Baldur’s Gate, from where they can be returned to their home in the Moonshae Isles.

As it suits your purposes, you have all agreed to accompany Wingo Po as far as Elturel, and perhaps farther. You are all strangers in this place, each marked as different from those around you. The happy farmers around you today can turn into a mob with pitchforks and torches come nightfall; the merry barkeep may be a spy; and the guardsmen along the walls will happily string up in a noose for no reason at all. Yes, it is good to have friends in a strange land.
